UniCare has announced their withdrawal of individual and group medical products from Illinois and Texas. The UniCare group policies placed through our General Agency will be non-renewed at the first UniCare plan anniversary following April, 2010. Therefore, the first potential cancelation of a UniCare group case due to non-renewal will be a May 1, 2010 anniversary. All of our Brodsky Agency UniCare brokerage business is in Illinois and is group business. BC/BS of Illinois has made an offer to individuals and employers to provide a new BC/BS plan "similar" to existing UniCare and continue billing at approximately the same rates as the current UniCare plan. Please sure to carefully review the BC/BS plan description that is actually being offered to your UniCare customer. In some cases it is very similar in other cases we are getting reports that it is not. Unfortunately, neither BC/BS or UniCare has provided The Brodsky Agency any information on the offers made to your UniCare customers that were insured through our office. The following applies to group customers of UniCare: It is more important than ever that you service your client. Your role as their professional insurance advisor could be the key to their good decision. Our understanding is that BC/BS will only hold the old UniCare rates for those employers who accept their offer until what would have been the next anniversary of the current UniCare policy. In Illinois no employer can be denied a small employer group policy because of employee medical information. Therefore your UniCare group customers have the time to look at all their options including Blue Cross. If they miss the BC/BS offer deadline they will not lose their insurability due to any medical history If BC/BS does turn out to be the best alternative they can apply later for any eligible BC/BS plan at the rate they qualify for with a full rate guarantee period. Further, in our opinion, those that do move to BC/BS now with a rate guarantee period equal to their prior UniCare plan should still review their options with you. The current UniCare premiums whether paid to UniCare or BC/BS are not going to last past the next UniCare anniversary date. Of course, we encourage you to recommend whichever product is in your client's best interests. It could be a BC/BS plan or it very well may come from any number of other good companies. There has been much confusion and misinformation regarding UniCare and the BC/BS offer. Please contact Larry Brodsky directly with any questions. (December 2009)
Allied National has announced the availability of their new Short Term Medical Plus product. It's approved in Illinois and the majority of other states where we actively market. Allied National has announced a commission bonus on all employer group moving their medical coverage from UniCare to Allied with effective dates of 1/1/10 or 2/1/10. The bonus is $250 for groups of 2-4, $500 5-9 lives and $750 for 10+. underwritten, standard issue, personal non-cancelable guaranteed
renewable disability plan, issued within the last 90 days and we
can issue a supplemental plan of disability insurance up to $10,000
per month but not exceeding in total 65% of income.
